Softball tournament for safety workers
The fifth annual Eastern Wake Public Safety charity softball tournament featuring emergency personnel from Wake Forest, Rolesville, Wendell, Knightdale, Zebulon and Knightdale, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at The Factory Ball Fields, 1839 S. Main St., Wake Forest. The event will include a 50/50 raffle and a home run derby competition. Hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments will be available. Proceeds will benefit the 200 Club of Wake County.
For the past 12 years, the 200 Club has provided immediate financial support for the spouses and children of police officers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and EMS crew members killed in the line of duty. For more information, call 919-787-8880 or go to 200clubwakecounty.org.
Foundation of Hope bike ride benefit
The Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness presents the eighth annual George Thanhauser Bike for Hope on Saturday, April 28, at Trek Bicycles on Durant Road in Raleigh. The event will include 50-mile, 32-mile and 15-mile rides starting at different times. To register, visit walkforhope.com and click on the “Bike Registration” button. Run to benefit police memorial
The Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation will hold the fourth annual Run for Our Heroes 5K race on Saturday, April 28. A ceremonial wreath-laying to honor the sacrifice and lives of the fallen officers will be held at 8:30 a.m. in Nash Square. The race/walk will begin at 9 on Dawson Street.
The McGruff Crime Dog 100-Yard Kids Dash will begin at 10 a.m. at Nash Square for children ages 10 and younger. The entry fee is $5.
A free social for participants will follow the race at Napper Tandy’s Restaurant, 126 N. West St., Raleigh. All proceeds will go to the foundation’s fund to build a memorial to the eight Raleigh police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Golf tournament to benefit pet rescue
Second Chance Pet Adoptions, a no-kill animal rescue group, is holding the Putts Fore Mutts and Cats Golf Tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Lakeshore Golf Course in Durham. Cost is $75 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, registration gift, continental breakfast, all beverages and lunch. The tournament will feature breakfast sponsored by Panera Bread of Apex and lunch sponsored by Care First Animal Hospital at Oberlin. Proceeds will support the ongoing efforts of Second Chance Pet Adoptions to rescue and find permanent, loving homes for the abandoned or homeless animals of Wake County and the surrounding areas. Fit to Lead 5K
The Raleigh Jaycees will hold its second annual Fit to Lead 5K at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at WakeMed Soccer Park, 201 Soccer Park Drive, Cary. The 5k benefits the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar of North Carolina East. Participants can walk or run. HOBY NC East is a yearly event in which 200 rising high school juniors attend a three-day seminar to expand and explore their leadership potential.

Basketball clinic in Creedmoor
A Greenups basketball clinic is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 5. The clinic will include age-specific drills and fundamentals for children ages 5-12. Cost is $35 and includes training, a presentation from a guest speaker, a camp T-shirt, a Certificate of Participation and an autograph from Anthony “Airport” Greenup #6. Fliers for the camp will be sent home to students who attend Creedmoor Elementary, Hawley Middle School, Mount Energy Elementary School and will also be available at the Creedmoor City Hall.
