Primary voting open through Saturday in Wake County

North Carolina’s 2012 primaries are May 8. Tuesday is the last day Wake County residents can submit a letter to the board of elections requesting an absentee ballot, and early voting is available in sites around the county through Saturday.

Absentee ballots

Letters requesting absentee ballots must arrive by 5 p.m. Tuesday. Ballots will be mailed one to two days after the request is received.

Letters must include the voter’s name, date of birth, home address and address where the voter wants the ballot mailed. The letter also must include the voter’s daytime telephone number and signature. The written request can be sent by the voter or by a close relative to: Wake County Board of Elections, PO Box 695, Raleigh, NC 27602.

Early voting

Early voting is open through Saturday in Wake County.

Optimist Community Center, 5900 Whittier Drive, Raleigh

Roberts Community Center, 1300 E. Martin St., Raleigh

Northern Regional Center, 350 E. Holding Ave., Wake Forest

Hours:

1 to 5 p.m. Sunday

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday

Voting is also available at the Wake County Board of Elections, 337 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh. Hours are slightly different:

1 to 5 p.m. Sunday

8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
