Student athletes, coach honored
The Raleigh Sports Club recently awarded four Wake high school athletes with scholarships.
Student receiving scholarships of $1,500 each were:
Sarah Woynicz, Middle Creek High - indoor and outdoor track
Kelly Glendenning, Cary High - soccer, cross country, swimming and diving
Justin Coleman, Broughton High - basketball
Hillary Brooke Gugig, Athens Drive High - golf
The club also honored retired Millbrook High teacher and former volleyball coach Kathy Stefanou with the organization’s Distinguished Service Award and $1,000.
Rotary club golf tournament
The Rotary Club of North Raleigh is holding a charity golf tournament Monday, May 14, at Wildwood Green Golf Club. The event begins with lunch at noon followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Proceeds from the event support scholarships, literacy and other Rotary charities. For more information, call 919-787-4133.
Golf tournament to benefit food pantry
The St. Francis of Assisi Church Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Wil-Mar Golf Club, 2300 Old Milburnie Road, Raleigh. Sign-in starts at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds will benefit Catholic Parish Outreach Food Pantry. Cost is $65 per player or $240 per team of four. Relay For Life
The overnight Northern Wake Relay For Life is scheduled for June 8-9 on the grounds of Richland Creek Community Church, 3229 Burlington Mills Road, Wake Forest.
