Perennial Cap Eight power Wake Forest-Rolesville got over the postseason hump this year, making a run to the state championship where the Cougars fell in two games to Alexander Central.
The Cougars took the regular season conference title, but not before a young Heritage team snapped Wake Forest-Rolesville’s 143-game conference win streak.
The Huskies went on to finish second in the league, led by Cap Eight player of the year sophomore Laura Williams and coach of the year Paige Quate.
Williams, a pitcher, led the Cap Eight in on-base percentage (.607) and was third in batting average (.489). From the circle she finished with a 0.96 ERA and 117 strikeouts, bested only by Wake Forest-Rolesville senior Brittaney Dahle with 0.89 and 177.
