Cardinal Gibbons standout Christina Gibbons named Clash of the Carolinas girls’ soccer MVP

Cardinal Gibbons graduate Christina Gibbons was named North Carolina MVP of the Clash of the Carolinas girls’ soccer match that ended in a 3-3 tie Saturday.

Gibbons, a Duke recruit, scored two goals and added one assist for the North Carolina team.

The North Carolina boys’, co-coached by Cardinal Gibbons’ Tim Healy, topped South Carolina 2-0 in the event held at Blackbaud Stadium in Daniel Island, S.C.

All-star basketball: Several area players were selected for the N.C. Coaches Association All-Star basketball game on July 22 at Greensboro Coliseum.

Millbrook’s Briana Day and Ryan Flowers will play in the girls’ game while Broughton’s Devonte’ Graham and Wakefield’s Logan Evans will play in the boys’ game.

Former Enloe and now Rolesville High boys’ basketball coach Tommy Moore will co-coach the East boys’ team.

Millbrook tennis vacancy: Scott Wofford, who coached Millbrook’s boys’ tennis team to the NCHSAA 4A dual team tennis championship this year, has resigned from his role as head coach, Millbrook athletics director Scott McInnes said.

Wofford led the team for three years, capping the run with two Wildcats players finishing second in the 4A individual doubles tournament and the team upsetting three-time defending champion R.J. Reynolds in the dual finals.
