Heritage repeats as Cap Eight girls’ golf champion

Heritage repeated as Cap Eight girls’ golf champion last week, led by conference player of the year Rhea Bhatia and runner-up Kendra Dalton.

The Huskies won all but one conference match this season, totaling 54.5 team points. Teams receive eight points for a first-place finish, seven for second, and so on.

Wake Forest finished second with 46, and Enloe was third with 40, followed by Wakefield (39.5), Millbrook (27), Leesville Road (22), Broughton (13) and Sanderson (10).

Bhatia, who finished the regular season with a stroke average of 38.29, will head back to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A East regional tournament Monday.

She will be joined by Dalton and 18 other Cap Eight golfers who qualified for the regional at Wildwood Green Golf Club.

Sanderson’s Savannah Gowarty, Enloe’s Lily James and Brianna Bulgarino, Wake Forest’s Amanda Levy and Samantha Bennett, Wakefield’s Casey Burroughs and Shreeya Singh, Millbrook’s Christy Johnson, Broughton’s Katie Brown and Leesville Road’s Mogie Adamchick were named to the all-conference team and qualified for regionals.

Other regional qualifiers were Heritage’s Hannah Whitt, Wakefield’s Cara O'Malley, Wake Forest’s Madie Fingers, Leesville Road’s Kristen Jones and Mary Lewis, Millbrook’s Kristen Holman and Kristin Yanes, and Broughton’s Eliza Taylor.
