Nonprofits receive new account executives

Jake Potter, senior account executive, and Jennifer Evans, account executive, of MMI Public Relations, have been appointed to two of Raleigh’s nonprofit organizations. Potter has joined the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo Task Force, and Evans has joined the Artspace Communications Committee.

Miss NC Princess goes national

Thales Academy second-grader Skyla Woodard, daughter of April Bonds and Herbert Woodard of Wake Forest, has earned the opportunity to compete in a national beauty pageant after winning first runner-up in the Miss NC Princess 2013 pageant. The national pageant, held at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.,will feature a grand prize of $500,000.

French/West/Vaughan promotions

Public relations and brand communications agency French/West/Vaughan has announced three promotions. John Riley has been promoted to associate creative director, Hudson Haines will be the new director of interactive media, and James Bailey will be the director of digital marketing.

Raleigh resident named Baird Sustainability Fellow

Raleigh resident Sam Pollan, a senior environmental studies major at Dickinson College, was named a Baird Sustainability Fellow for advancing sustainability goals on or beyond the Dickinson campus through excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.

Pollan is one of seven students selected for the prestigious program, which also considers criteria such as high academic achievement, attainment of advanced-level sustainability competencies and dispositions through academic work and practice, and evidence of a service project of exceptional impact related to sustainability.

Optometry student honored

Priya Sheth, of Raleigh, was recently honored with the Dr. Stanley Dickerson Leadership Award at Southern College of Optometry. The award recognizes an optometry student demonstrating excellent promise in his or her studies and comes with a $1,000 monetary award.

Sheth is the daughter of Nitin and Nutah Sheth. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina.
