Gallery reception

A gallery reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Roundabout Art Collective, 305 Oberlin Road, Raleigh. Displays will include Courtney Pernell’s pottery, Dave Spencer’s glass, Marina Bosetti’s ceramic tile, Kin Godwin’s abstract painting, Leigh Griffith’s jewelry, Gaines Bailey’s pottery, Mary Storm’s abstract mixed media and Suzanne McDermett’s watercolors. New works at Roundabout

New works by Susan Parrish and Thomas Teague are on display through March 30 at Roundabout Art Collective, 305 Oberlin Road, Raleigh. Parrish works in ceramic recycled objects, and Teague works in paint. Visit RoundaboutArtCollective.com for more information.

Rusalka

N.C. Opera will present Antonín Dvorák’s “Rusalka” at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in Meymandi Concert Hall at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 E. South St., Raleigh. Tickets are $27 to $85 and may be purchased at NCOpera.org or 919-792-3850.

Architectural Reflections

Art exhibition “Architectural Reflections” will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 4, at TRIG Modern, 328 W. Jones St., Raleigh. The exhibit will remain on display through June 2. “Architectural Reflections” is the work of Abie Harries, FAIA, and is part of the First Friday Art Walk.

Bard Brawl

The Oak City Bard Brawl will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at King’s Barcade, 14 W. Martin St., Raleigh. The Brawl is a lighthearted storytelling competition in which competitors get seven minutes to impress the judges with their oratory and creative skills. The winner will be crowned the “Bard of Oak City” and be rewarded with Sir Walter Raleigh’s plumed hat. The theme for this year is “Metamorphosis.” Tickets are $10. Visit KingsBarcade.com.

Short Fiction Award

The Wade Edwards Foundation & Learning Lab is accepting applications for its annual Short Fiction award. The scholarship is given to three N.C. high school juniors who submit the most outstanding piece of original short fiction. Application deadline is May 5.
