Consider diverse needs for plastic bags

July 8, 2014

Re: “Should Raleigh charge shoppers for using plastic bags?” (July 2)

Hello? Small business? Does the Raleigh City Council care about the back bone of our city's economy? The sign ordinance nightmare, now this? Not only am I struggling as Raleigh's oldest remaining business (set to hopefully reach our 150th birthday next year), but I also work daily with Raleigh's unique and diverse homeless population. I NEED those plastic bags. We fill them full of food for those in need and take recycled bags often. I propose they donate the bags to me, instead of charging small business per bag. Now that makes better sense. If they need more money, I suggest they cut spending. If you think the economy has recovered, then you're reading a century old paper.
